Peachy Keane

Margaret Keane has been painting doe-eyed children since the fifties – at first sold under the name of her husband Walter Keane. Dark images of forlorn moppets hung in many orange and avocado-hued homes including my own. A longtime art-world punch line, Keane has recently seen her work come into its own as the kids of the sixties come of age and want to own a piece of childhood nostaglia.
